Saturday Reflections: Martha or Mary?

At our school meeting this week, my principal said something that hit me right in the heart: “Some of you may be feeling like Martha — but don’t forget to take some time to be Mary.”

And honestly? I needed that refresher myself. When Jesus visited, Martha ran around — cooking, cleaning, doing everything. Mary? She just sat at His feet, present and listening. Martha got upset, but Jesus told her Mary had chosen the better part.

And listen… don’t we all feel like Martha sometimes? Back-to-school prep, holidays creeping up, goals we hit, goals we didn’t — life has us on go, go, go.

But here’s the thing: we need Mary moments, too.

For me, sometimes that’s being in church, because I do love starting my week in His presence. Other times, it’s journaling or just sitting still with my thoughts and letting Him meet me there.

The other night, after being in professional development meetings all day, I started jotting down my to-do list. Suddenly, I felt that nudge: “Don’t forget your other born assignment.” I’m still figuring out exactly what that means, but I know part of it is building community with like-minded women — women like yourself who are also trying to find that balance between Martha and Mary.

And that’s the thing about Mary moments — they look different for each of us. For me, it’s church or journaling. For you, it might be something else entirely — but the point is, you don’t always have to be doing. Sometimes you just need to be.

So sis, this week let’s give ourselves permission to step out of Martha mode and lean into Mary. The laundry, the lists, the deadlines? They’ll still be there. But your peace, your joy, and your presence? That’s the stuff you can’t afford to miss.

Wishing you peace and presence this week — may you find your Mary moments right when you need them most.

Peace, love, and class-ness😘

So today, I chose Mary. Time well spent with my hubby, guilt-free. 💕
